Beating the Bounds

Beating the Bounds

Beating the Bounds celebrates, and creates a record of, the social, cultural and architectural history of Hackney Marshes and Hackney Wick.

It is producing walking tours of Hackney Marshes and Hackney Wick, the more “remote corners” of the borough which will be thrust into the spotlight in 2012 - because they border the Olympic Park.

The tours will exist on hour-long podtours available for free download to mp3 players.  Additionally there will be an audio and visual documentary programme available to view online, plus scheduled live guided walks.

The podtours will remember the individuals and places that shaped the area, focusing on contemporary and existing locations, and historic figures and places from the past. As well as a walk narrative, they will include a variety of sound pieces: interviews with local people, famous artists like – Rachel Whiteread, Gavin Turk, or Bridget Riley – who have all had studios in the area; local experts and historians; readings from original material archive material; and music.

Beating the Bounds is led by The Hackney Society
