Hackney Heritage Young Volunteers

Our young volunteers advise the Discover Hackney partners on marketing and publicity, help with administration and gardening, support activities for families and the general public, and lead guided tours.

What the young people have said: ‘We’ve had a lot of feedback after each tour which was really useful. We used this information so that each day the tour developed and was constantly evolving which was one of our objectives.’  ‘My confidence has improved 100%’ ‘I feel a good sense of achievement. Great that it was individual tours but also that we came together as a group – a real team focus, there has been good group dynamics, and we’ve become friends’
Feedback from the public: ‘Great to have a fresh perspective on the museum, Thank-you. ‘I know the museum really well, but have walked by the objects chosen so many times and not taken any notice. It was great to get a personal perspective and to look again.’

The Hackney Heritage Young Volunteers project involves a number of the Discover Hackney partners. It began in 2008, and will continue until 2011.
