Adult Learners Week is happening nationwide, and in Hackney we've got some great activities for you to get involved in - all inspired by Hackney’s rich heritage – people, places, past and present.

IF BUILDINGS COULD TALK: A WALKING TOUR FOR THE CURIOUS
Saturday 15th May, 2:00-4:00pm.
If the buildings on your street could talk what would they say?
The Building Exploratory invites you to listen to the buildings on a walking exploration along a canal side street in Shoreditch. Join performer Lizzie Lewendon as she brings bricks and mortar to life, revealing a glimpse of the industrial past and voicing the histories and mysteries behind the facades.
The walk will begin at the Building Exploratory, 8 Orsman Road, N1 5QJ

DISCOVER COMMUNITY PLANNING AND THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT
Saturday 15 May 10.30 am – 5.0 pm
A day of talks and workshops about how to research the history of buildings, getting involved in decisions about planning, and the ways in which you can help to safeguard the historic built environment. The day ends with a walk in the local area of De Beauvoir – putting the lessons of the day into context

CREATIVE SHOREDITCH

Join historical walks guide Rachel Kolsky for an exciting journey around the historical creative quarter of Shoreditch, presented by Hackney Museum. A slow-paced history walk suitable for all.

A GARDEN WITHIN DOORS
Thursday 20 May 6.00-8.00pm
An informal open evening at the Geffrye Museum, with a garden theme and live music. Talks and workshops exploring all things floral in both indoor and outdoor gardens. Should appeal to anyone who is interested in garden history, local history and garden design.

Come and see rapidly changing Hackney Wick and Fish Island, discovering Hackney’s industrial and natural heritage as it looks forward to the future. A longer walk for the more confidant walker.
