Discover Hackney hosted events for the great national initiative Adult Learners Week from 14 - 20 May.

We hosted 5 talks, 2 walks, a workshop, and an evening of Japanese food and customs!

Refurbish: The life and times of a tower block
The Building Exploratory
14 May, 10.30am-12.30pm
Learn more about the history of tower blocks, see our own refurbished model and then go ona guided tour of the Holly Street Estate. FREE.

 Highlights of Haggerston
15 May, 2.30pm
Join City of London guide John Finn on an architectural and historical walk around Haggerston, starting at the Geffrye Museum. There is a downloadable guide available from the documents page. FREE.

Talks at the Tower
St Augustine's Tower
16-20 May, 7.30pm
A programme of five talks on spring evenings about, around and on top of the Tower! Speakers include Iain Sinclair. The Tower will be open for refreshments from 7.00pm. FREE.

At Home in Japan
Geffrye Museum
18 May, 5.45-8.30pm
An evening inspired by our special exhibition will include a curator-led talk and a demonstration about Japanese food and customs. Tickets £6.00 - includes admission to the exhibition and a glass of sake.

Book Brunchers
Sutton House
19 May, 11.00am-12.00noon
Come to the launch of our new monthly book group and hear our special guest author talk about their work and their connection to Hackney. Sutton House cafe will be open for brunch and drinks. FREE.
